Find tweets by what's written in them.

    Containing both "NASA" and "ESA". Spaces are interpreted as implicit AND operator. Brackets can be used to group individual words if using other operators.

    Either "nasa" or "esa". OR must be in uppercase.

    The complete phrase "space agency". Will also match "space-agency". Also use quotes to prevent spelling correction.

  • this NOT that

    '-' (minus) is used for excluding tweets which contain "nasa" from all results containing "space agency". Also applies to quoted phrases and other operators.

  • only tweets from verified accounts

    filter search results to display only tweets authored by verified usernames.

  • only tweets from followed accounts

    find tweets authored only by accounts you follow.

  • only tweets with @mentions

    find tweets which @mention other accounts in them.
    NOTE: to eliminate reply tweets from the search results combine this operator with

Tweets may come in many types and forms. They can be retweets, quotes, replies or polls. The ability to filter-down a Twitter search by focusing on a specific type of Tweet can help micro-target specific type of conversations.

    Native retweets are excluded by default. Using this filter will shows them in the search results. In contrast to filter:nativeretweets which will shows only retweets.

  • filter RT type retweets

    filter:retweets

    In the past, Twitter used to designate retweets with RT before the tweet. This filter will show old type retweets.
    NOTE: some users tend to ask other users to retweet by using RT in their tweet. This filter will show these tweets as well.

  • show only reply tweets

    filter:replies

    Filter only tweets that were sent as replies to other tweets. Good for finding conversations, or threads in combination with to:user and from:user

  • include replies in results

    include:replies

    Twitter typically serves normal tweets in search results. Use this operator to include also replies. Works well in combination with the from:user operator.

  • filter quotes

    Filter only tweets that are quoting other tweets.

  • find quotes of a specific tweet

    Find all the tweets quoting a specific tweet.
